Orientation

➢The bloody battle took place in 1945 in Surabaya

Series of events

➢ The governor of Java and Brigadier Mallaby made an agreement.

➢ Indonesians refused to surrender their weaponry to British army.

➢ There were misunderstanding between British troops in Jakarta and those in Surabaya, under the command of Brigadier A.W.S. Mallaby.

➢ Leaflets were dropped all over Surabaya by a British plane from Jakarta.

➢ The Indonesians felt betrayed.

➢ Brigadier Mallaby was killed.

➢ British army began to advance into Surabaya with cover with both naval and air bomberdent.

➢ The battle lasted three weeks.

➢ Many Indonesians died in the battle.

Reorientation

➢ The Battle of Surabaya awakened Indonesian and International people to support the Indonesian national revolution.

Definition of Recount Text

Recount text is a text that telling the reader about one story, action or activity. Its goal is to entertaining or informing the reader.

 (sebuah teks yang menceritakan sebuah cerita, aksi ataupun aktifitas. Tujuan recount text adalah untuk menghibur atau memberi informasi kepada pembaca.

Recount is a text which retells event or experiences in the past.

 (sebuah teks yang menceritakan kembali kejadian atau pengalaman di masa lampau.

Generic Structure of Recount Text

- Orientation : It gives the readers the background information needed to understand the text, such as who was involved, where it happened, and when it happened.

- Events : A series of events, ordered in a chronological sequence.

- Re-orientation :A personal comment about the event or what happened in the end.

Purpose of Recount Text

- To retell past experience.

The Characteristics / Language Feature of Recount Text

- Using the simple past tense, past continuous tense, past perfect tense, and past perfect continuous tense.
- Using temporal sequence, e.g. On Saturday. On Monday, On Sunday.
- Focus on specific participant, e.g. I (the writer).
- Using the conjunctions, such as: then, before, after, etc.
- Using action verd, e.g. went, stayed.

A Trip to the Zoo

Yesterday my family went to the zoo to see the elephant and other animal. When we got to the zoo, we went to the shop to buy some food to give to the animals. After getting the food we went to the nocturnal house where we saw birds and reptiles which only come out at night.

Before lunch we went for a ride on the elephant. It was a thrill to ride it. Dad nearly fell off when he let go of the rope. During lunch we fed some birds in the park. In the afternoon we saw the animals being fed.

When we returned home we were tired but happy because we had so much fun.
