Definition of Recount Text

Recount text is a text that telling the reader about one story, action or activity. Its goal is to entertaining or informing the reader.

 (sebuah teks yang menceritakan sebuah cerita, aksi ataupun aktifitas. Tujuan recount text adalah untuk menghibur atau memberi informasi kepada pembaca.

Recount is a text which retells event or experiences in the past.

 (sebuah teks yang menceritakan kembali kejadian atau pengalaman di masa lampau.

Generic Structure of Recount Text

- Orientation : It gives the readers the background information needed to understand the text, such as who was involved, where it happened, and when it happened.

- Events : A series of events, ordered in a chronological sequence.

- Re-orientation :A personal comment about the event or what happened in the end.

Purpose of Recount Text

- To retell past experience.

The Characteristics / Language Feature of Recount Text

- Using the simple past tense, past continuous tense, past perfect tense, and past perfect continuous tense.
- Using temporal sequence, e.g. On Saturday. On Monday, On Sunday.
- Focus on specific participant, e.g. I (the writer).
- Using the conjunctions, such as: then, before, after, etc.
- Using action verd, e.g. went, stayed.

A Trip to the Zoo

Yesterday my family went to the zoo to see the elephant and other animal. When we got to the zoo, we went to the shop to buy some food to give to the animals. After getting the food we went to the nocturnal house where we saw birds and reptiles which only come out at night.

Before lunch we went for a ride on the elephant. It was a thrill to ride it. Dad nearly fell off when he let go of the rope. During lunch we fed some birds in the park. In the afternoon we saw the animals being fed.

When we returned home we were tired but happy because we had so much fun.

—PAST TENSE | PERFECT TENSE 📑

PRESENT PERFECT TENSE

1. Definitions and formulas 

present perfect tence is used to express an activity that has occurred in the past. but it still has something to do with the present time either because it hasn't finished yet or is still being worked on. 

The formulas, for the present perfect tense :

+) S + Have/Has + V3 +Complement

-) S + Have/Has + Not + V3 + Complement

?) Have/Has + S + V3 + Complement

2. Time of event

Using time that has passed but is still in the same time period because it is related to the present time.

3. Consequences

In the present perfect tense, the effect caused by mash can be felt until now, the  torms is related to the present time.

4. Activity mode

The present perfect tence is used to show an activity that has been carriied out but has something to do with the past.

5. Example Simple Past Tense :

• I have done my task since yesterday 
• she has cooked a delicious food for you 
• my mother has sent me some money 
• they have played football for 2 hours 
• we have bought a gift for you 
• I have driven a car alone

What's the difference? Present Perfect and Past Simple

Present Perfect Simple	Past Simple
Unfinished actions that started in the past and continue to the present: I've known Julie for ten years (and I still know her).	Finished actions: I knew Julie for ten years (but then she moved away and we lost touch).
A finished action in someone's life (when the person is still alive: life experience): My brother has been to Mexico three times.	A finished action in someone's life (when the person is dead): My great-grandmother went to Mexico three times.
A finished action with a result in the present: I've lost my keys! (The result is that I can't get into my house now).	A finished action with no result in the present: I lost my keys yesterday. It was terrible! (Now there is no result. I got new keys yesterday).
With an unfinished time word (this week, this month, today): I've seen John this week.	With a finished time word (last week, last month, yesterday): I saw John last week.

• News of weddings, birthdays, inaugurations and births.

• Advertisement.
• Activity / event reports.
• Notification / appeal from the government.

Destination announcement  :

↳ The purpose of the announcement text is to notify information about an event, job vacancies, new student admissions, new student admissions, and so on by providing formal information to the general public or certain communities ( To give a formal written notice of certain events).

Generic structur announcement :

1. Title : This is the most important part because it represents the whole content of the announcement. Even so, sometimes it is not clearly stated.

2. Explanation : further explanation of the announcement. Usually consists of basic information that includes: type of activity, time, place, and participants.

Announcement Parts :

• Title or event type (The title / type of event).
• Date and time (date and time).
• Place (place).

↪ The purpose of the descriptive itself is to provide a picture or explanation to the reader or hear about something that happened, while the structure of the descriptive itself is identification, description and conclusion.

Identification contains an introduction to something in English, while the description is about the description of something and the conclusion is the conclusion of the text.

Descriptive Text About Lake Toba

 

Lake Toba or Toba Lake is one of the most popular destinations in Indonesia, especially in Medan, North Sumatra. Lake Toba is the largest volcanic lake in Indonesia, even in the Southeast Asia. Which make it more special is taken from the Samosir Island, an Island that settled in the middle of the lake.

Lake Toba is an area of ​​1,707 km², we can say that this is 1,000 km² bigger than Singapore. It formed by a gigantic volcanic eruption some 70,000 years ago, it is probably the largest resurgent caldera on Earth. Pulau Samosir or Samosir Island, The island in the middle, was joined to the caldera wall by a narrow isthmus, which was cut through to enable boats to pass; a road bridge crosses the cutting. Samosir island is the cultural center of the Batak tribe, the indigenous from North Sumatra.
By the eruption of a super volcano (Mount Toba) was estimated to have caused mass death and extinction of several species of living creatures. The eruption of Mount Toba has led to changes in the earth's weather and the start into the ice age that affects the world civilization.
Lake Toba is actually more like a sea than a lake considering its size. Therefore, the Lake placed as the largest lake in Southeast Asia and the second largest in the world after Lake Victoria in Africa. Lake Toba is also includes the deepest lake in the world, which is approximately 450 meters.
